What is a dog park?
A dog park is where dogs are taken to relax and keep them physically fit. Such parks are made on a large scale or with a small area. People bring their pets here. Next time they go back home again.
What are the benefits of dog parks?
At the dog park, we benefit in two ways. 1. Financial development, 2. Social contribution.
- Financial development: There are very few people in today’s world who don’t love dogs or don’t own dogs. People who love dogs always want to have a dog by their side. Also, dog owners want to spend some time outside with their dogs. So the park can be a great place for them. But currently, not all parks allow dogs or pets. So dog parks have become one of the favorite places for dog lovers. Building a dog park that provides good services for dogs and their owners will be a very profitable business. People will bring their beloved pet dogs and spend time with them, have fun, play sports, and share rides. In this, the park authorities will get an opportunity to earn money. Moreover, if a store can be arranged outside the park for dogs, then more benefits will be available. Owners will purchase essential toys, food, and accessories for their dogs from there. It will generate more profit.
- Social contribution: In our opinion, nowadays people can take action on pet park reform as an area of social development. Currently, there is very little unique open space in society except for residential areas. Hence the need for parks to entertain pets. For this, we as humans should make a dedicated park for pets. They will have a good time there. In this way, pets will not cause problems for people on the roads of the area or around other people’s houses. It is a source of pride as an animal lover, and it also represents the area.
What are the disadvantages of the park?
Everything has both good and bad sides. Dog parks also have their downsides, but that depends on management. If we start doing something without understanding, we will eventually fail. So we should always plan properly for the whole work in any work. For example, if we do not pay attention to park planning, the park may not open or close at the correct or scheduled time, or our staff may be apathetic about cleaning the park. Otherwise, the various problems of the park will continue, etc. which will confuse the visitors of the park and tarnish the reputation of the park. Moreover, some of the negative effects of parks can be seen in dogs as well. Pet lovers will face a big loss in this.
What should be kept in mind when creating a park?
A park represents that society. So we should make the park more beautiful and comfortable for the sake of society and the area. There are many aspects to be considered in making a park such as: 1. Place, 2. Transportation, 3. Environment, 4. Safety.
These are discussed below
Transport: The transport system must be of good quality wherever we decide on the location of the park. If the transportation system is not good, there will be various problems in the unique work of the park. For example, a pet lover may want to come to the park but they may not come due to traffic or road conditions. Moreover, bad roads can also cause dogs to get sick and any emergency work will also have to deal with this problem.
Environment: The environment is able to change the behavior of an animal. So we should create a better environment for dogs. For example, a noise-free, traffic-free, odor-free, and healthy-tasting environment is required for dog parks. So this must be taken into consideration when parking for dogs.
Safety: Every animal needs safety. Security is one of the fundamental rights. If security is not ensured later it carries huge losses. Both humans and pets suffer from it. We need a security system in the park which can provide good service to the park. Parks should have specially trained personnel.
What kind of equipment does a dog park need?
Fencing: Safe fencing is very important for walking around designated areas of the park. Dogs love to jump. Therefore, dog fences need to be 6′ high. Many parks use 5′ high fences, but there are some breeds of dogs that can jump 4′-5′ tall fences. So the fence should be 6′ for safety.
Double-gated entry: Such gates are very important for entering and exiting the park. This gate helps prevent dogs from being in shock and is more effective for safety.
Benches and seating: Dog owners need benches to sit and rest. Sustainable park benches should be purchased by looking at the size, shape, etc. Also, don’t buy a bench that will get damaged in the sun or rain.
Waste stations: A dispenser with a bug is needed to pick up dog waste. This helps in maintaining more cleanliness in the park. Moreover, people will know more about its use.
Trash receptacles: Different dustbins are needed to keep dog waste and general waste separate. By this, we can easily send the waste to the appropriate place.
Water stations: Another name for water is life. Bowls or fountains should be provided as water supply in the park. This ensures that the dogs stay hydrated while playing.
Shade structures: A shade shelter or tree provides comfort to the dog and its owner from excessive sunlight. Especially effective during hot weather.
Equipment: Ramp-like structures such as tunnels, fences, etc. create extra stimulation for the dog to exercise.
Separate areas for small and large dogs: Dogs should be divided into two sections in the park based on size. This approach helps prevent accidents and ensures a safe playing environment.
Grassy areas or mulch: A soft grassy surface or mulch in the park provides a comfortable area for dogs to run and play, which prevents the dog’s soft body from being scratched.
Lighting: Adequate lighting is required if the park is open in the dark. Adequate lighting ensures safety for dogs and their owners. Moreover, adequate lighting enhances the beauty of the park.
Signage: Clear signage with rules, safety guidelines, and contact information for emergencies is essential for informing visitors.
